We have been in Sweden to shoot some pictures of their fantastic building style.
If you’re new to Swedish (and Nordic) building style, Sweden has always used more wood than bricks which gives a very special style – almost like in the Alpes where you’ll also find wooden cabins.
Red Wooden House From BulderBy, Sweden
This little house is a two-story wooden house with a little entrance section on the front.
We love how the red and white colors mix to create a bright and cozy look.
The big logs used on the entrance extends all the way to the roof and the windows are separated into squares which also adds a very unique cottage-feel to this home.
Wooden Cabin With Front Porch
This little gem is found inside the Astrid Lindgreen park in Bullerby, Sweden.
It’s a classic old Swedish design with a little front porch sealed by picket fence on the sides and a narrow entrance point.
You’ll also find a shed in the garden (to the right) and a little toilet shed on the left as this is a very old design.
Red Wooden House On City Street
This is a house we came across on our travels in Sweden this spring. It’s also a wooden house with a front porch, but this home also has a balcony for the warm summer days.
The very bright yellow color on the wood is typical for Sweden, and you’ll notice how again it’s mixed with white logs.
Danish Style Cottage (old design)

This older home is very cute.
Completely pink and wooden exterior makes this home so unique. We love the classic wooden building style, and recognize the Nordic twist in both the muntin-style windows and the open deck design.
Very cute!
Black wooden village home
This wooden home is also classic Nordic style.
Notice how the black paint is contrasted with the white framing of the windows. Just beautiful!
Here’s a similar design:

We love the muntin-style windows and the strong colors!
We also want to show a few town houses that are old enough that they are cottage-style.
Like this little town house in Aarhus, Denmark.
Small town house

This little home is from around 1900.
Notice how super TINY this home is. It’s a standard home from that time and it features a tiny garden at the other side of the house. It’s built in the city center and you’ll find a lot of these in Northern Europe when you visit older cities and smaller towns.

We’ve also created a set of image for inspiration for cottage design and smaller homes.
We’ve focused on cottage-style cabins and small houses with inspiration from around the world. Typically, these are wooden homes in the style of Swedish and nordic design.
Tiny Shack With Stone walls

With a picket fence, this little home can offer a cozy and charming retreat.
The compact size and inviting design create a welcoming atmosphere, and the details on the fence resembles the structure of the roofing.
The picket fence also adds a bit of privacy.
Peaceful Modern Home in Village style
Another example of a peaceful modern home with clean lines and lots of windows.
The green ivy is a wonderful details that we love and the black window frames match the house nicely.
A great idea for a home in the forest.
Mountaintop Small home

This house rendering is built on a rock sticking out form the landscape.
Not to uncommon in the Nordic countries.
The picket fence around the house creates a bit porch with lots of space for a glass of red wine!
